Time-Outs

In America, children are increasingly being raised in single parent homes.  To compound a bad situation many of these single parents are teen mothers who think they can raise their children with no formal discipline, either physical or chemical.

Fact: Teen mothers are willing to allow their children to get away with more bad behavior since they too are seeking forgiveness for their own bad behavior (being impregnated outside of wedlock).

A child stood in a corner for five minutes only learns that he can write on the walls and only incur the devastating wrath of a dusty corner of a room for five minutes.  Years ago a child who caused trouble would have been marched out to the willow tree to pick his switch.  You can bet that such a child would remember such a punishment and thus not repeat his deviant behavior.  In these turbulent political times a making a child pick his own switch would get you a war crimes tribunal at the Hague.

Mothers (teen or not) need to snap out of their indecisive stupor and stop reading "newage" child rearing manuals that recommend all natural methods of child management.  Lets face it, in order for a mother to raise her child by these "newage" method she would need to take off her shoes and stay at home 24/7.  This would also mean that a single mother would need to marry the first man to ask her, and stand by him regardless of his personality.
